The Committee on Anesthesiology Students and Trainees (COAST).

COAST is the Committee on Anesthesiology Students and Trainees, comprising two co-chairs, two co-chair elects, a secretary, a treasurer, a medical school liaison and student liaison, plus one resident/fellow representative from each ACGME-accredited Massachusetts residency program. It provides a platform for trainees to raise training concerns and collaborates with other MSA committees to advocate for the professional development and well-being of residents and fellows across Massachusetts.

Goals

  • Advocacy for Anesthesiology: Represent the interests of all Massachusetts medical school students, residents, and fellows in addressing state and national issues impacting future anesthesiologists.
  • Active Engagement: Maintain an active presence at both state (MSA) and national (ASA) meetings to ensure proper representation and effective advocacy for our specialty.
  • Promotion of Anesthesia Awareness: Foster interest in anesthesiology by advocating for and facilitating anesthesia awareness and interest groups across all medical schools in Massachusetts.

    Every year, COAST members accompany physician members to a variety of events. These events include conferences, executive committee meetings, and events where COAST members have the opportunity to network with professionals in the field and gain valuable insights into the latest advancements in anesthesiology.
