Election Process

To be considered for a position nominees must be current MSA Members and the nomination form (online or word document) must be completed within the timeline noted, additional requirements are defined in the ASA + MSA bylaws (to request a copy please email maanesthesiologists@mms.org).  The election process starts with a call for self-nominations, leading to the compilation of prospective candidates for the Nominations Committee's review. The candidates and the Executive Committee are notified by March 1.  An open forum at the Executive Committee meeting allows for additional nominations and brief presentations (as defined by the president) from contested or new candidates. The Executive Committee will vote on the slate in March, followed by an online election for all members, with results announced at the MSA Annual Meeting.

Submission Deadline: This form must be completed and submitted by midnight ET on Saturday, February 3, 2025, to be considered.
Form Availability: The form is available in both paper and email formats upon request.
Submission Methods: Submit the completed form online or by email at maanesthesiologists@mms.org by the deadline.
Purpose of Information: The information provided will be used by the Committee on Nominations to gauge interest, not to confirm candidacy. It may also be shared with the Executive Committee for ballot selections or with members during a contested election.

Executive Committee Roles

MSA Executive Committee governs the State Component, developing advocacy strategies and policies, approving educational meeting proposals and activities, and considering membership benefits. The Executive Committee meets in person approximately quarterly and has appropriate members to attend ASA annual meetings. The majority of expenses associated with attending these meetings are reimbursed. Communication with the Executive Committee is also conducted via e-mail. 

2025 Open Positions

  • President-Elect (1 year term): Assist the President in the performance of duties including presiding at society meetings and other meetings in their absence. 
  • Vice President (1 year term): Assist the President and President-Elect in the performance of duties including presiding at society meetings and other meetings in their absence. 
  • Secretary (2 year term):  The Secretary serves as the official correspondent with the American Society of Anesthesiologists, maintains the membership roster, facilitates applications, conducts member investigations, encourages new applicants, communicates training details, certifies new members, reports changes to the ASA, submits annual updates, oversees delegate nominations, and acts as the recording secretary.
  • Treasurer (2 year term): The Treasurer serves as the custodian of all Society funds, maintains detailed financial records, pays authorized obligations, submits an annual budget to the Executive Committee, presents an audited financial statement to the membership, and ensures timely completion of all required financial filings.
  • ASA Delegate (5 positions; 3 year term, 1 position 2 year term): Represent this Society in the House of Delegates of The American Society of Anesthesiologists and whenever possible counsel with the officers of this Society on all matters pending in the House of Delegates of The American Society of Anesthesiologists in the interest of making certain that actions taken by that body are in accord with the best interests and desires of this Society.
  • ASA Alternate Delegate (12 positions; 1 year term): Asked to fill in when a Delegate is unable to attend the ASA House of Delegates or fulfill their duties. They also may serve the ASA House of Delegates as tellers.
  • MSA District Representatives (1 position for each District – 9 Districts – According to U.S. Congressional District; 1 year term): Represent the membership of the district at Executive Committee meetings as well as council and report updates to district members.
  • MSA Alternate District Representative (1 position for each District – 9 Districts – According to U.S. Congressional District; 1 year term: The Alternate District Representative shall represent the District Representative and their District when requested to do so by the District Representative.
