Advancing Anesthesiology The Executive Committee of the Massachusetts Society of Anesthesiologists is dedicated to advancing the field of anesthesiology through strategic leadership and oversight. Empowered to make impactful decisions, this dynamic committee plays a crucial role in implementing the Society's directives. Our dedicated MSA Committee encompasses Society Officers, ASA Directors and Delegates, District Representatives, and Chairs and Members of MSA Standing Committees, including the Committee of Anesthesiology Students and Trainees (COAST). MSA Leadership Roles and Responsibilities |
President: Oversees the Society’s operations in line with Executive Committee policies, promotes public welfare in anesthesiology, and appoints committees. Delivers an annual report and fulfills Bylaw duties; serves from one annual session's end to the next. President Elect: Supports the President, presides over meetings in their absence, represents the President externally, and prepares for the presidency; serves from one annual session's end to the next. Vice President: Assists the President and President Elect, presides over meetings when both are unavailable, and ensures leadership continuity; serves from one annual session's end to the next. Immediate Past President: Provides continuity and guidance to new leadership based on past experience, ensuring a smooth transition; serves from the end of their term until the next annual session's close. Secretary: Acts as the liaison with the American Society of Anesthesiologists, maintains the member roster, manages applications, promotes membership, notifies members of changes, and handles documentation; serves from one annual session's end to the conclusion of the second following session. Treasurer: Custodian of Society funds, oversees secure deposits, maintains financial records, executes authorized payments, prepares the annual budget, presents audited financial statements, and ensures timely filings; serves from one annual session's end to the close of the second following session. | ASA Director: Represents Massachusetts at the American Society of Anesthesiologists, engaging in national discussions and advocating for the Society's members. ASA Alternate Director: Fills in for the Director when needed, ensuring representation at meetings, and facilitates communication between the Society and national organization. District Representative: Advises district members, represents their interests on the Executive Committee, and reports back on Committee actions and recommendations. Must reside within the district. Alternate District Representative: Serves as the representative for the District Representative when requested, ensuring district interests are maintained. Must also reside within the district. ASA Delegate: Delegates represent the Society in the ASA House of Delegates for a three-year term, beginning at the next Annual Meeting. They are responsible for consulting with Society officers on relevant matters, attending all meetings, and ensuring that the Society's interests are effectively communicated and upheld. ASA Alternate Delegate: Alternate Delegates serve a one-year term, stepping in to represent the Society when Delegates are unable to attend meetings. Their role is crucial for maintaining consistent representation and ensuring that the Society's voice is heard at all times in the House of Delegates. |
